Try these 5 Seattle cafes where you can enjoy a cup of coffee al fresco

If you ask me, coffee shop culture has been perfected in Seattle. I love that a coffee shop is a place to meet and hang out with friends, a remote work environment, or a place to read a good book. Lately, when I need to get out of the house and need a change of scenery, I go to one of my favorite cafes.

This winter, I was pleasantly surprised by the number of cafes that had expanded menus, outdoor seating, and sometimes offered something stronger than coffee. Coffee shops in Seattle have become an extension of my living room, and I’m not mad about it. I’m a huge fan of celebrating a sunny day in winter, and I love that so many other Seattle venues offer al fresco dining regardless of the season.

Over the past few years, I’ve been really drawn to supporting small and local businesses, and my top picks have been places that offer indoor-outdoor options. Come rain, snow or shine!

Mr. West coffee bar

location: Downtown and University Village

I fell in love with Mr. West Cafe years ago and it’s still one of my favorite Seattle cafes. The menu is amazing, the coffee options are endless, and the happy hour is wonderful. I also love the combination of indoor seating and outdoor patio at both locations.

The Flora bakery

Location: Beacon Hill

Flora Bakehouse opened about a year ago and to be honest I go there almost every day. My favorite part of Flora, apart from the baked goods freshly baked daily, is the rooftop terrace. Come rain or shine, enjoy an almond croissant and lavender honey latte while gazing out at Mount Rainier.

Common porpoise

Location: Capitol Hill, Pioneer Square and Laurelhurst

General Porpoise is the perfect marriage of donuts and coffee options. I’m a sucker for their custard donut and their brown sugar or matcha latte. Their Capitol Hill location is the perfect place to “work from home”. I also love when the garage door is open at the Capitol Hill location, another indoor-outdoor dream.

Red Arrow Coffee

Location: Ballard

Red Arrow Coffee was born out of a dream. The fireplace, the indoor and outdoor seating, the delicious breakfast sandwiches and the great coffee: there is nothing better. Hidden behind greenery that looks like a secret garden, Red Arrow is my top choice for cafes with outdoor seating. catch me outside!

mainstay provisions

Location: Ballard/Phinney Ridge

A cafe meets a wine bar meets a small market, Mainstay Provisions is a cozy little place with the best atmosphere. My favorite order here is the Soft Serve Affogato and one of their rotating focaccias. The garage door, which opens to the street, offers the best balance of indoor and outdoor dining.
