SCB is an award-winning multidisciplinary design firm with a national presence as an architecture start-up opening a new office in Seattle, backed by a well-established ninety year old office. We’re looking for a Senior Architect on board to build an office that’s in equal parts SCB and Seattle.

We’re looking for a creative, passionate, and dedicated design professional who wants to get on the ground floor to help us build a vibrant practice and culture working on mixed-use multi-family, commercial office, and college projects.

SCB Seattle is already working in cooperation with our office in San Francisco on several exciting projects in the western United States and Canada. What you will do

  • Organizes the day-to-day work of the SCB project team and acts as the main facilitator of communication with the customer and other members of the project team

  • Is an integral part of the formulation of the project conception philosophy and strictly adheres to this philosophy when carrying out the work and when assigning junior staff.
  • Acknowledges the qualitative goals set for each project and works to achieve those goals while balancing design, technical, and business goals.
  • Creates detailed work plans to achieve project milestones and continuously monitors progress.
  • Directs and supervises the work of junior staff in the creation of drawings, studies, models and other project tasks. Supervises and trains junior staff in a constructive and well-considered manner.
  • Provides a thorough understanding of complex building materials and systems, details and construction techniques, primary structural and MEPFP systems and their operation, and secondary building systems.
  • Shows thorough understanding of zoning, building codes, and other governmental requirements related to the project and reviews documents for compliance.
  • Holds meetings with regulators and prepares strategies to address interpretative issues related to building codes.
  • Participates in strategic discussions with senior management on issues that affect company performance, market perception, customer satisfaction and profitability.
  • Researches and promotes opportunities for new or innovative system applications. Actively seeks and implements techniques to improve work quality and efficiency.
  • Promotes a positive team atmosphere with cooperative and interactive working methods and sets a high standard for professionalism and leadership of the young.
  • Perform other tasks assigned and determined by SCB.

What you bring

  • 5- or 6-year accredited professional qualification in architecture.
  • More than 10 years of experience in large, multidisciplinary projects. License preferred.
  • Knowledge of Revit and familiarity with graphic illustration software programs such as 3D Studio Max and Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and In-Design is desirable. Knowledge of New Forma is desirable.
  • Highly developed aesthetic sense in dealing with materials, color, shape, texture, proportion, composition
  • Hands-on understanding of building codes and the process of quantifying, illustrating, and explaining design solutions to allow the licensing authority to work effectively with a wide variety of people including clients, consultants, code officers, and building contractors
  • Displays technical knowledge of building systems, material assemblies, and engineering concepts
  • Ability to take on and respectfully lead younger employees in all project phases
  • Professional demeanor and reputation for fair and consistent business dealings with all parties
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership and good judgment
