The Washington Association of Sewer & Water Districts (WASWD) announced that one of its members, Whitworth Water District, has received a State Auditor’s Stewardship Award for Public Resource Accountability. Washington State Chartered Accountant Pat McCarthy praised the district’s commitment to ensuring the health and safety of everyone involved during one of the first remote audits during the COVID-19 pandemic. Whitworth Water District Treasurer Ron Gillies officially accepted the award during the WASWD autumn conference and trade fair 2021. “It is an honor to be recognized for our district’s commitment to accountability and transparency,” said Timothy Murrell, Whitworth Managing Director. Gillies is the second WASWD member to receive this award. Shane Young, the current Vice President of the WASWD Board of Directors and General Manager of King County Water District 125, was the first water district to receive the award in 2018. The State Auditor’s Office serves independently of Washington by promoting accountability, fiscal integrity, and openness in state and local governments to ensure the proper use of public funds. The annual Stewardship Award is the highest financial achievement of the state government. A maximum of ten awards are given out of more than 2,400 cities, counties, universities and special purpose districts audited annually, which are exemplary for the audit process, which helps to make the government more transparent and to make it more effective.

Committed to the Ellensburg Downtown Association Brenda DeVore as the new managing director. DeVore has experience expanding the Main Street America program. Her involvement in the Ellensburg community dates back over 15 years when she was the Aveda sales representative for Salon Fenix. DeVore most recently worked as a community engagement and event manager at the Greater Issaquah Chamber of Commerce and event director for the Salmon Days Festival. Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, the Vancouver, BC-based equipment auctioneer, is buying SmartEquip for $ 175 million. SmartEquip provides real-time service and diagnostic support for corporate equipment fleets as well as electronic parts procurement from OEMs and dealers. SmartEquip supports fleets in North America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. It has 60 employees and, according to Ritchie, will operate as a standalone company based in Norwalk, Connecticut for the foreseeable future.
