SEATTLE, Sept. 14, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — GigabitNow, a leading provider of fiber optic Internet services, announced it will use Hoosier Networks LLC’s (H-Net) fiber optic network to provide high-speed Internet service to at least 70,000 residences and shops of the cities of Bloomington, Columbus and Shelbyville, Indiana. This fiber-based, high-speed Internet solution is scheduled to be made available to the first wave of Hoosiers by January 2023.
“As a leader in Internet connectivity for homes and businesses for over 25 years, we are excited to extend our Gigabit fiber Internet services to the state of Indiana,” said Stephen Milton, CEO of GigabitNow. “GigabitNow is an established and trusted provider in numerous communities across the United States, offering fast, symmetrical Internet speeds without data caps, long-term contracts or privacy concerns, all with unparalleled customer service. We look forward to partnering with the Bloomington, Columbus, and Shelbyville communities in delivering this exceptional service and customer experience.”
“We are excited to partner with GigabitNow and these Hoosier communities to deliver better, faster fiber-based connectivity that will fuel greater economic, educational, and business opportunities far into the future,” said Nicolas Rubio, Meridiam’s Chief Executive Officer, America. “This announcement is further evidence of our commitment to closing critical gaps in fiber infrastructure and helping to narrow the digital divide.”
Hoosier Networks, the fiber optic network provider founded by Meridiam, an asset manager specializing in transformation infrastructure, plans to invest more than $90 million to bring high-speed fiber optic Internet access to Bloomington, Columbus and Shelbyville, where residents and businesses reside currently underserved in terms of access to high-speed internet services.
“Digital inclusion and digital literacy are tools that all Bloomingtonians need to live their daily lives and participate in community and civic life,” said Mayor John Hamilton. “Working with Hoosier Networks and GigabitNow to meet the needs of residents and improve the quality of life in Bloomington is an important advance – for now and for our future.”
Through a phased approach, the first residents in Bloomington are expected to receive fibre-based broadband service by the end of January 2023, with the last few premises being served by the first quarter of 2025. Columbus and Shelbyville residents will be able to enroll in the service in the first quarter of 2023, with the last residents being serviced through the end of 2024. Residents are offered multiple plan options at different prices and internet speeds to suit their specific needs. Eligible low-income residents can use the Affordable Connectivity Plan (ACP) to get reduced or no-cost access to a 250 megabits per second (Mbps) symmetric plan.
GigabitNow was selected by H-Net for their expertise and track record of working in local communities. Hoosier Networks’ fiber optic network will provide services at a minimum of 1 gigabits per second of symmetrical (equal upload and download) speeds wherever the network reaches.

In addition to Hoosier Networks, Meridiam is deploying fiber optic networks in the Edmonton, Canada area and is also working with Magenta Telekom, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom AG, to provide fiber optic nationwide coverage throughout Austria. These projects aim to fill critical gaps in fiber optic infrastructure by investing in better and faster connectivity in communities, thereby improving access to work and education opportunities.
As a leader in sustainable investing and wealth management, Meridiam has made over $75 billion in total investments in more than 100 infrastructure projects worldwide, 20 of which are located in North America, making Meridiam an established, long-term partner of choice for the public Sector.
