Project description: Springfield’s first Costco wholesale store is under construction near the intersection of US Highway 65 and the Chestnut Expressway. It is also the first location in southern Missouri, along with six others in the state – three each in the St. Louis and Kansas City areas, according to the company’s website. Costco is a membership-based warehouse retailer selling groceries, housewares, clothing, electronics, appliances, and other merchandise. The site will also have a gas station, said Sydnee Lindsey, training coordinator for people development at subcontractor Emery Sapp & Sons. Costco’s move to Springfield was contingent on a $ 4.8 million deal with the city council to reimburse public infrastructure, which was approved in June 2020, according to earlier reports in the Springfield Business Journal. Costco spokeswoman Susan Holloway said the store will open with at least 200 employees.
