Isaiah Reid scored two goals, including one just 27 seconds into the game, and Clemson beat Washington 2-0 to win the NCAA College Cup championship on Sunday.

It was Clemson’s third national championship. The Tigers also won in 1984 and 1987.

Washington goalkeeper Sam Fowler was caught out of position and Reid easily scored his first moments in the game.

Reid hit his head again in the 15th minute. As a junior, Reid finished the season with nine goals, including two games with two goals.

Washington fought in the final third after the early Clemson goal came on the huskies’ heels. Clemson goalkeeper George Marks had two saves, including one in the final minutes when Washington tried to score.

The Tigers celebrated at the final whistle and fans streamed onto the field in a swirl of confetti.

Clemson played in his fifth national championship game. The last appearance came in 2015 when the Tigers fell against Stanford.

Clemson moved on after a 1-1 draw with Notre Dame in the semifinals on penalties.

Washington, who competed in the College Cup for the first time, defeated Georgetown 2-1 on Friday night at Wake Med Soccer Park to advance.

Clemson was the reigning ACC tournament winner, but lost to Duke in the semifinals of this year’s conference tournament.

Washington finished half a game behind Oregon State for the Pac-12 title. The Huskies only had one loss in the regular season.

It was the second meeting of the two teams. The Huskies defeated Clemson 4-1 in a neutral game in 1996.

The announced attendance was 7,238.
