Almost skipping Kamala Harris and 5 more notable moments from today’s signing of the Infrastructure Act

It wouldn’t be an important day in the American government without a few moments between funny and embarrassing, and the signing of the infrastructure bill on Monday was certainly no exception.

For starters, the announcer at the event appeared to mispronounce the last name of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (DN.Y.) and added an “er” where it was should be a “you”.

The same announcer was 0-2 after not introducing Vice President Kamala Harris for her remarks, but instead Heather Kurtenbach, director of Seattle’s Iron Workers Local 86, who was due to speak immediately afterwards.

When President Biden was finally on his feet, some found it strange that he should see Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.)

Others suspected that Biden was trying to woo Sinema, whose vote he will need on the Democrats’ spending package to get a 50-50 Senate passed.

The President also joked that the second gentleman Doug Emhoff is actually the “second husband” of First Lady Jill Biden …

… and made fun of event attendee and infrastructure negotiator Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) after calling him a “hell of a good guy”.

Finally, when the law was finally signed, Republican Don Young of Alaska – Alaska! – figured he was “almost damn frozen” while waiting for Biden to finish. Capitol Hill really changes a man.
