In a collision on Interstate 82, a person was seriously injured and the traffic messed up near Prosser on Thursday morning.
John W. Henning, 57, from Yakima, was driving east in a GMC van on Interstate 82 shortly after 7:35 a.m. when he was about three miles east of Prosser on the back of a truck and trailer in the same direction came across, said the Washington State Patrol.
The fire brigade had to pull Henning out of the van with machines. During his rescue, the lanes to the east were closed and a Life Flight rescue helicopter was called in.
Henning was flown to the Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, where he is in satisfactory condition.
Grandview truck driver Victor G. Torres Gonzalez, 34, was uninjured.
Both men were buckled up. The state patrol has not established the cause of the crash and is still investigating.
The crash stopped traffic heading east for nearly two hours until 9:30 a.m., resulting in a 3 mile backup on the freeway.
